The undefeated light heavyweight Callum Johnson has chosen MGM Marbella to train during his relaxing training holiday.
Johnson, the 2010 Commonwealth gold medal winner, is originally from Boston in Lincolnshire but is visiting for a week from Gallagher’s gym in Manchester and is preparing for a fight in June which is yet to be confirmed. He is being put through his paces by MGM’s very own “Taffanator” but also relaxing in the sun. Johnson visited with the lads from Gallagher’s back in January and was keen to come back.
“It’s as good a gym that I have ever been in in the world,” he said “it’s all round great in everything,” said Johnson.
MGM are pleased to welcome him back.
Sunday marked the end of a 4-day training camp for Mark Bateson and his fighters at MGM Marbella. The trainer from Leeds visited MGM Marbella for the first time and bought 3 fighters with him; Adil Anwar, Hamed Ghaz and his son Jack Bateson.
Bateson was visiting from the Burmantofts boxing club in Leeds and they were getting ready for their upcoming fights. Both Ghaz and Anwar are fighting on 15th May at the Ice Arena in Sheffield. Adil Anwar is top of the bill and the fight will be shown live on Eurosport. The professional welterweight boxer is set for an 8-rounder. Hamed Ghaz is looking to give more of the same, following his TKO victory in his second pro fight at the end of March.
Jack Bateson is hoping to be heading to Azerbaijan to fight at the qualifying tournament for the Olympics. Jack is a top prospect for the 2016 Olympics in the flyweight division.
While at MGM Marbella they have been sparring with MGM’s very own Tom Stalker and doing plenty of strength and conditioning. Mark was full of praise for MGM Marbella, “We have been really looked after” he said “It’s a fantastic gym, spotless and we will be back.” MGM Marbella look forward to it.
