WBO middleweight champion Andy Lee weighed 159.6lbs for what should have been the Irishman’s first defense of the title against former belt holder Peter Quillin on Saturday night.
Whilst Lee had no problems getting under the 160lb limit, Quillin could only manage 161.4lbs and had two hours to shed the weight.
‘Kid Chocolate’ was unable to do so in the allotted time, and although the fight still goes ahead, Quillin won’t take the title with a victory over Lee.
In the super lightweight co-feature, which has a catchweight of 143lbs, WBC and WBA champion Danny Garcia scaled 142.2lbs. whilst IBF title holder Lamont Peterson came in bang on the limit.
None of the three belts currently in the fighters possession will be on the line on the night at the Barclay’s Center in Brooklyn, NY.
