Luke Paddock will tune up for his maiden Midlands Area Light Welterweight Title defence with a four-round fight at Walsalll Town next month.
‘Cool Hand’ faces Chris Truman during the summer in a battle of the Black Country versus Birmingham and, as he prepares for that encounter, he will feature on Black Country Boxing’s ‘A New Dawn’ at Walsall Town Hall on Saturday, 25th April.
“I’m looking forward to fighting in April,” Paddock told www.uko-boxing.com. “It’s always a pleasure to fight in my home town and the Town Hall is a very special venue for me.
“I’m scheduled to defend my title against Chris Truman during the summer and I want to keep busy. I was offered the chance to feature on ‘A New Dawn’ and I was delighted to accept.
“My manager and trainer, Paul Gough, will be looking for an opponent similar to Truman; someone who is short and stocky with decent power. That way, I can prepare for my first title defence.”
Paddock was due to face Truman for the then vacant Area Title last year before Truman was forced to pull out. That paved the way for the Walsall man to take on Stoke’s Josh McLaren. Paddock comfortably defeated McLaren to take the title in December and was set for a first defence in February. However, scheduled opponent, Fergus Taylor, was forced out of that encounter due to medical issues. Paddock still fought but only a six rounder against ‘Fonz’ Alexander but now, with a first defence on the horizon, the 23 year-old is eager to get back in the ring.
“The Alexander fight was a good test for me,” he added. “He came in at late notice but came to win. I had prepared for a title fight though and that’s why I was back in the gym virtually straight away. That means I’m in good shape going into this four rounder.
“I have Truman in my sights but I need to take care of business in Walsall first.”
Tickets to see Paddock are priced at £30 and £60 Ringside and are available from Walsall Town Hall Box Office on 0845 111 2900.
Stafford’s Rob Hunt will take on Nuneaton’s Sullivan Mason for the vacant Midlands Area Welterweight Title.
Rowley Regis light middleweight sensation, Jason Welborn, and Stourbridge light middleweight, Steven Pearce, also feature alongside Wolverhampton welterweight, Sid Bowater, Stoke light welterweight Josh McLaren, Welshpool light middleweight, Warren Sinden, Ludlow light middleweight, Craig Morris, and Burton light welterweight, Tom Shaw.
