For the Lebedev clash, Kalenga trained in Big Bear Lake, California with the renowned ABEL SANCHEZ.
“Working in Big Bear was perfect for me, this was my first camp with Abel and we’ve become a great team” said Kalenga. “I feel like I learned more in this camp than I have in previous ones.”
Said Sanchez, “This was my first camp with Youri, he’s very strong and works hard. I’ve stressed being focused in his work and that’s helped a great deal.”
“We’ve had great sparring from lefties and from Murat Gassiev even though he’s not a southpaw and we’re looking to capitalize on the wear and tear that Lebedev has, having been through a number of tough fights.”
“Having Youri train with Abel will make the difference in this fight” said MICHAEL KING of KING SPORTS. “We want our fighters not to just get big fights, but be fully prepared to win and we’ve put Youri in a position to be a world champion now.”
“Dethroning the champ in his home country is never easy but Youri’s track record shows that he has no fear about traveling the world for victories.”
Sporting a record of 26-2-0 (20KO’s), the 35-year-old Lebedev regained the WBA Cruiserweight World title on September 27, 2014 with a second round knockout of Pawel Kolodziej in Moscow, Russia.
On June 21, 2014, Kalenga conquered the toughest foe of his career, MATEUSZ MASTERNAK in Monte-Carlo, taking a 12-round decision and earning the “Interim” WBA Cruiserweight Title.
