Roach: Pacquiao is going to smoke Mr. 47-1
Roughly a month before he lets it all fly, Manny Pacquiao was back to his old ways at the Wild Card Boxing Club in Hollywood yesterday, putting a smile on Freddie Roach’s face and assuring him that everything’s going to be all right.
“Best day of training yet,” Roach said in his social media account after presiding over Pacquiao’s training session a little over a month before facing Floyd Mayweather at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
Roach was a bit unhappy over the weekend when Pacquiao appeared gun-shy during a sparring session.
But when they reunited after the weekend break, both master and student were all smiles.
“Power, speed, angles and footwork,” continued the 55-year-old Roach. “He is going to smoke Mr. 47 and 1.”
Of course, Roach was referring to the 38-year-old Mayweather, who holds an unblemished 47-0 record with 26 KOs.
The intensity of the sparring will step up in the next few weeks when the 36-year-old Pacquiao gets to work with as much as four different guys in just one session.
While reports say that Pacquiao has been complaining of leg cramps the past few days, Team Pacquiao insists everything is being done to remedy the problem.
Conditioning coach Justin Fortune believes Pacquiao will be 100 percent by the time he emerges from his dressing room and struts his way to the Grand Garden Arena ring.
In the morning of Monday’s workout, Pacquiao proceeded once again to the UCLA track for his strength and conditioning training under Fortune.
