Berman reveals Haymon offers for Oosthuizen, eyes June date

Golden Gloves has been inundated with offers for the talented fighter, not least from American powerbroker Al Haymon, who has mooted a big fight for the southpaw. As with all such offers, Rodney Berman is carefully weighing them up.

For now, Berman is tentatively eyeing a June date for a title defence at Emperors Palace. There is the possibility of another title being in the mix for Oosthuizen.

Among the myriad options is a unification fight, although Berman was coy on naming names or promoters.

“Tommy has a lot going for him,” Berman explained. “He’s unbeaten, entertaining and he is world class at two weights . . . he has many options. The trick is working out what’s best for him.”

In a related coup, Berman confirmed that he has secured a crack at the WBC lightweight Youth title for Xolisani Ngendeni, the tyro who has just signed for Colin Nathan.

“He’s an incredible talent and we look forward to showcasing him to Gauteng fans on June 6. He’s just 24, so has time on his hands.”
