Michael Katsidis back to winning ways, set to fight again in May

‘The Great’ out-pointed Filipino journeyman Rodynie Rafol 58-56 (twice) and 59-55 on the scorecards without setting the world alight to improve his record to 31-7 and move on to a second comeback fight at the same venue on May 22nd.

Katsidis is eyeing one final run following a run of five defeats in eight bouts stretching back to his Las Vegas heyday against Juan Manuel Marquez in 2010 and told WBN earlier in the year that he aims to go back to the UK on a revenge mission.

The Aussie warrior lost to Ricky Burns as well as Coyle on his last two visits to the British Isles, but knows a string of decent victories will be needed to persuade the duo’s promoter Eddie Hearn to extend him an offer to return.

Also on the bill, one of Katsidis’ old foes was in action as Aussie-based Filipino Czar Amonsot remained unbeaten in the eight years since they met with a similar points win over Thailand’s Padjai Yongyuthgym.

Any idea of a rematch between the pair looks to be a good one at the moment.
