IBF welterweight title challenger Jo Jo Dan has sent a warning to Briton Kell Brook ahead of their world championship bout at the Motorpoint Arena in Sheffield on Saturday week.
The Romanian-born fighter, real name Ionut Dan Ion, travels to the United Kingdon for the first time after fighting predominantly in his adopted home of Canada throughout his career and says he will rip away Brook’s newly-acquired red belt at the first time of asking.
“I know it’s a big opportunity for me, but I believe in myself and I will do everything possible in the ring that night to be the new IBF Champ,” Dan told World Boxing News.
“It’s been so far so good and we are all on schedule. I will be in the best shape of my life on March 28.”
Asked whether being the underdog and facing a Partizan crowd against Brook was any hindrance to him, Dan replied: “Not at all. Being the underdog is less pressure as I have got nothing to lose and all my concentration is on winning the fight. It’s going to be an exciting fight for sure and I know that the fans will love it!”
The champion, 28, enters the ring for the first time since suffering a serious leg injury during a machete attack on holiday in Spain late last summer and 33 year-old Dan is ready to capitalize on any ring rust Brook may have occurred during his seven months out of action.
“If he accepted this fight I expect him to be 100% ready and he better be!” said Dan. “I hear him saying wants bigger fights, so he needs to win. In my mind, they can mention anybody, but Kell Brook has to fight me first.
“I am thrilled to get my shot at the world title and I hope all fans around the world will tune in. UK fans will become my fans at the end of this fight and I can’t wait to see you all there.”
