Bookies offer £70k for Rooney v Bardsley 2 at Old Trafford

The former Manchester United team-mates went toe-to-toe at Rooney’s home in February, ending with puncher Bardsley knocking out the England captain with a stiff jab. The resulting grainy video was then leaked by a cheeky friend who captured the supposed playful bout on their mobile phone.

In-form Rooney made light of the KO when scoring in United’s recent win at Old Trafford against Tottenham Hotspur at the weekend, although Paddy Power are urging the avid boxing fan to lace up the gloves again in aid of charity.

“Punters have been going crazy for the re-match and there’s no doubt it could be as big as Froch v Groves 2,” said Paddy Power.

“After seeing Rooney go down like Moyes’s career at United in the first one, we’re offering 6/1 for history to repeat itself with a Bardsley KO.”

Bardsley, who now plays for Stoke City, showed some skills in dropping Rooney like a sack of potatoes in the short encounter, although neither the defender nor his opponent for that matter, have commented on whether they would be willing to go public with a return.
