Manchester United footballer and avid boxing fan Wayne Rooney was spectacularly knocked out by former team-mate Phil Bardsley as the pair laced up the gloves in the superstar’s kitchen.
Rooney, who has previously carried Ricky Hatton’s belts to the ring for title contests, decided to joke about with Bardsley as the two spent time with friends, although the playful fight went horribly wrong for the England captain.
All went well in the opening exchanges until Bardsley, who now plays for Stoke City, unleashed a still jab that lifted Rooney off his feet. As Rooney fell, the former Everton man seemed to bang the back of his head on his pool table but may have already been knocked out cold prior to the contact.
Another friend at the gathering videoed the incident and decided to hand it to British tabloid ‘The Sun on Sunday’ leaving Rooney red-faced and potentially in hot water with his Manchester United boss Louis Van Gaal.
