Former world champion Enzo Maccarinelli made light work of Hungarian Gyorgy Novak in the Welshman’s hastily arranged bout on VIP Boxing’s Victoria Warehouse bill in Manchester.

Maccarinelli was due to fight in Widnes on the Ovill McKenzie v Matty Askin undercard but was switched shows when the top of the bill clash was postponed until March 27. The move didn’t faze the ex-cruiserweight king though as he blasted out Novak in just 48 seconds.

In London, Jahmaine Smyle upset Lee Markham via a split decision to inflict a second career loss in sixteen bouts on the Essex Man. Smyle, from Leicester, picked up the vacant English super middleweight belt as two of the three judges found in his favour 96-95 after ten rounds.

The third had it 97-93 to Markham whose run of eleven straight wins came to an end.

Also on the bill, Prizefighter winner Larry Ekundayo stopped Dale Evans in five rounds to move to 9-0, whilst former pro footballer Leon McKenzie defeated Ivan Stupalo over ten rounds in dominant fashion.

McKenzie, who played in the English Premier League at the height of his career, was awarded every round on referee Marcus McDonnell’s card to pick up the vacant International Masters super middleweight title.
