Shimmell helps Stevenson prepare for Bika clash

Team Shimmell 12/03/2015

Jordan Shimmell, 18-0 with 15 KOs, is once again training with WBC World Light Heavyweight Champ Adonis Stevenson.

Jordan flew to Montreal last week to join Adonis’ training camp as Adonis prepares for his title defense against Sakio Bika in Quebec City on April 4th. This is the 4th training camp in which Jordan Shimmell has helped prepare Adonis for an upcoming opponent.

The first was in May 2013 when Jordan imitated Chad Dawson and boxed from the southpaw stance to help Adonis prepare for his fight against then WBC World Champ Dawson. Jordan had just finished a training camp with World Heavyweight Champ Wladimir Klitschko whom he had also sparred from the southpaw stance.

Even though Jordan is right handed and his natural stance is orthodox, he has proven to be quite capable of boxing from the southpaw stance. Jordan was also familiar with Chad Dawson as he had sparred him two years earlier to help Dawson prepare for his title fight with Adrian Diocanu. Jordan enjoyed helping Adonis prepare to win a world title and was very excited to see Adonis destroy Dawson with a spectacular one punch KO. Since May 2013, Adonis has had Jordan Shimmell help him prepare for all of his fights except one. The sole camp Jordan was absent from was due to Jordan receiving stitches from a headbutt during Jordan’s USBO Cruiserweight title fight victory in October 2013.

Jordan Shimmell is the youngest boxer rated in the top 25 of BoxRec.com’s cruiserweight world ratings. Jordan had a big year in 2014 and looks forward to an even bigger 2015. Jordan had 6 fights in 2014 and steadily climbed the world cruiserweight rankings.

Jordan is training hard while waiting to hear details from his father, Dennis Shimmell Jr., who is his trainer and manager and his advisor, Al Haymon, about his next fight. Jordan is hoping to fight on television in that next fight and show the world his excellent boxing skills.

Jordan Shimmell has dominated all 18 of his pro opponents and won every round since turning pro which is a total of 59 rounds. With two big knockout wins to close 2014 and three victories since signing with Al Haymon in June 2014, Jordan Shimmell has moved up even further in the world and regional rankings.

Jordan Shimmell is the USBO Cruiserweight Champion and is world ranked #19 by the IBO and #20 by the WBC. In the regional rankings Jordan is ranked #2 NABF, #3 NABA, #3 NABO and #2 USBA. Having impressed the promoters, matchmakers and powers to be with his recent performances it looks very likely that Jordan Shimmell will be boxing on television in his next fight sometime in Spring 2015.
