Broner on Molina win: My defense was on point, I’m still beautiful!

The 25 year-old, who has already claimed recognised belts at 130, 135 and 147lbs, was in great form for the third bout in a row and duly recorded his 30th win from 31 contests to keep up his unbeaten run at the 140lb limit.

‘The Problem’ arguably took every round from Molina (120-108 [twice and 118-110 officially on the cards) to inflict a third straight loss on the exciting Californian, who must now drop back down a level in order to regain his confidence after being no match for three world class opponents in Broner, Humberto Soto and Lucas Matthysse recently.

Afterwards, the victor spoke about his triumph and praised Molina for his bravery in battle once again.

“The environment I’m in today, a lot of them were not on my side, but at the end of the day the last time I fought for the crowd I took my first loss. So, no disrespect to everyone that came to see me fight today, but I had to do what I had to do to get my victory,” said Broner.

“Even a vicious guy like [John] Molina, as you can see I stood right inside of his face and didn’t go anywhere. I jabbed and took every shot that he threw. I took mine and won the fight unanimously.

“John Molina is a great fighter. He’s tough and he can hit. I had to be careful, but at the end of the day my defense was on point like a thorn and I’m still beautiful at the end of the fight.

“He wanted me to sit there and bang it out with him, but why would I do that when God gave me so many gifts. After a while I knew he was going to start going for the guts, so I just had to stay sharp.

“This is my first time on NBC so I have to give it to you all. I lived up to the hype. He was swinging for the fence and I had to stay dangerous. I beat all odds tonight as I knew coming into the arena 85 percent of the people were against me.

“It’s family time now. I just had a baby and I’m going to have some fun,” he added.

Broner can fully expect to be considered to face the likes of current world champions Danny Garcia, Lamont Peterson and Jessie Vargas in the coming months as the talented American nears another history-making night on his new platform at NBC.
