Nava defends WBC belt; Nery impressive; McMorrow scores split win (photos)

Jackie Nava has everything in offense: Power, speed, precision and force. And with those tools, she eventually overwhelmed Mayra Gomez in the sixth round to successfully defend her WBC Super Bantamweight World Championship in Argentina.

Referee Rocky Burke stopped the action, along with the decision of the corner who threw in the towel at 1:22 minutes of the sixth round.

Nava looked powerful, confident, motivated and determined and although Gomez  was brave and wanted to be aggressive, in the end surrendered to her more experienced rival.

Tijuana prospect Luis “Pantera” Nery defeated Jether Oliva in convincing style to move to 16-0. Nery completely dominated the Filiipino whose corner no longer allowed to fight on in the fifth round due the overwhelming beating he received.

Melissa McMorrow overcame Kenya “Jaguarcita” Enriquez to win the WBO flyweight title. American McMorrow set the pace of the war and prevented the technical boxing of Enriquez coming to the fore.

At the end of the ten rounds of boxing, the effective McMorrow and inefficient Enriquez waited for the judges decision as Kenny Bayless (98-92) and Gerard White (97-93) favored the US fighter, while Francisco Lopez gave it 96- 94 for the Tijuana boxer.

Other results: Elvis Torres drew with RosalĂo “Aspid” Rivers after six rounds of combat. Carlos Ocampo (14-0-0, 10 KOs) retained his undefeated record and made it look easy in a fight that on paper looked complicated against Uriel “Big Bang” Gonzalez (13-1-0, 10 KO’s).

Angel “Humble” Rodriguez (12-1-0, 5 KOs) won by unanimous decision against Orestes Pereira (13-3-0, 10 KO’s), whilst headliner Jackie’s nephew, Daniel Nava scored a deserved unanimous decision victory over Samuel Garibaldi. Ismael Camacho also won by way of points against Juan Delgado.
