Stafford boxer Grant Cunningham and Rob Hunt have been spurring each other on ahead of their respective fights this weekend.

The duo are in action at The Chase Leisure Centre in Cannock and the stablemates at the Fight Factory, Longton, have been helping each other prepare ahead of the respective showdowns.

Undefeated Cunningham steps down a weight to take on Damon Jones in an English Middleweight Title Eliminator whilst Hunt goes in search of title honours when he competes for a British Bronze Masters Welterweight Title against Melksham’s Liam Richards.

“We’re both ready now,” Cunningham told www.uko-boxing.com. “We’ve both put in the graft and feeling good.

“I feel sharp. I’ve had some good sparring and that has helped me. did a bit with Tommy Langford, who is a very good boxer. I’ve sparred a number of southpaws (Jones is a southpaw) and I’m comfortable with my game plan.

“I feel good. I feel strong and fit; it will all come down to the night now.

“We are both undefeated at the minute but being a successful professional boxer is not just about your ‘0’. Unless you are up there with the big boys fighting for millions, maybe it’s important but, at this stage of our careers, it doesn’t mean anything. I’m not concerned about my record, all I want to do is progress, win this one and fight for an English Title. I’m taking it a step at a time.”

“It’s been a great camp for us both,” added Hunt. “Having lads in the gym who are fighting at the same time is good. It means we can push each other on and are at the same stage in terms of preparation. Josh Mclaren is also on the bill so there’s been three of us in training plus we had Kieran McLaren in action last week.

“It’s good for the gym and good for us all. We’re all ready to go now. I want to get my hands on that title.”

Walsall’s Luke Paddock is also in action as he makes a maiden defence of his Midlands Area Light Welterweight Title when he takes on Newark’s Fergus Taylor.

Stourbridge light middleweight, Steven Pearce, Leeds welterweight, Stevi Mennell, Stoke light welterweight, Josh McLaren, and Birmingham debutant Waqas Mohammed complete the card.

The show takes place at Chase Leisure Centre, Stafford Road, Cannock, Staffordshire, WS11 4AL.
