The eagerly awaited IBF World Super Bantamweight title fight between Carl ‘The Jackal’ Frampton and Chris Avalos is upon us. Belfast is gripped by big fight fever as superstar Frampton gears up for the first defence of his crown against the American mandatory challenger.
Saturday’s historic contest will be shown live in the UK on ITV’s flagship channel and in the Republic of Ireland on UTV Ireland. It will also mark the first time that Belfast’s Odyssey Arena has hosted a legitimate world title fight.
Frampton, 19(13) – 0, is taking boxing back to the masses and the explosive champion is aware of the magnitude of the occasion.
“It’s fantastic that my first defence will be shown live on ITV in the UK and live in the Republic of Ireland on UTV Ireland. Boxing needs this kind of exposure and I am over the moon that I will have the chance to perform on such a massive platform,” said Frampton.
Avalos said: “Everybody is going for him. I’m the villain here, but that’s okay. I expect that and I feed off that. It’s a beautiful place, and the people could not have treated me better. I’m ready. I have nothing to lose and everything to gain.”
Saturday’s The World Is Not Enough bill is packed with exciting bouts, including a clash of unbeaten heavyweights featuring Brixton’s explosive Dillian Whyte against Beka Lobjanidze from Georgia.
Manchester’s former Commonwealth Champion Denton Vassell is back in title action against the highly-rated Viktor Plotnikov of the Ukraine in a vacant IBF Intercontinental Welterweight title fight.

Cacace meets rugged Santiago Bustos over eight rounds in an international super featherweight contest while Cummings boxes a six-rounder against Roberto Palenzuela of the Canary Islands, who is also unbeaten.
Belfast’s Marc McCullough makes his comeback after hand surgery in an eight-round international featherweight contest, the prelude to a big fight later in the year for the WBO European Featherweight Champion.
