Ellesmere Port star Paul Butler returned to the Port Arcades Shopping Centre on Saturday to put on a thrilling display for shoppers ahead of his history making IBF World Super-Flyweight title challenge on Friday 6th March at the Liverpool Echo Arena and promised to make the City proud.
Butler, the former IBF World Bantamweight Champion, aims to become the first British fighter in over 100 years to drop down a weight division to win a second world title when he faces the IBF World Super-Flyweight Champion Zolani Tete, live and exclusive on BoxNation.
The 25-year-old sensation headlines an action-packed show with Merseyside stars Liam Smith, Derry Mathews, Kevin Satchell, Jazza Dickens, plus Lancashire hot-shot Jack Catterall all in big title action.
Youngsters from the Wirral CP Boxing Club, where Butler was developed and the breeding ground of future potential world champions, opened the work-out and there was plenty of talent on show being put through their paces by the club’s trainers.
In front of a packed crowd, Butler then put on an action packed display for his loyal fans by going through a hard session with renown trainer and former two-time WBU World Champion Anthony Farnell and a few rounds of sparring with a British Heart Foundation mascot!
All-action Butler displayed his full array of skills from his precision, hard-hitting, on the pads to his blurring hand speed and rapid-fire combinations, mixed with fast footwork and multiple angles that marks him out as one of Britain’s most exciting and devastating fighters.
Now Butler wants to get his hands on a second world title by beating Tete and get in the mix with the other elite 115-pound world champions in his dream to unify the divisions.
“A big thank you to all the fans who came out to support me today at the Port Arcades, despite the cold they turned out and it gives me a huge boost knowing that the city is behind me in my bid to become a two-time, two-weight, history-making world champion and I will make them proud,” Said Butler.
“I promise it will be a lot hotter in the Liverpool Echo Arena on Friday 6th March when I face Tete. No doubt about it, he’s a good, tough and strong world champion, African fighters are known as warriors and this guy is one hard fighter. With the City behind and my undeniable will to win, I know that I can bring this title back with me.”
Michelle Pickstock, from the Port Arcades, said, “The Port Arcades Shopping Centre was delighted to welcome Paul back today ahead of his fight in March. We, like the rest of the town are right behind Paul and know he will continue to make the town of Ellesmere Port proud.”
