Former WBC Silver Featherweight Champion Jayson Velez (22-0-1, 16 KO) from Puerto Rico, has started training at Wild Card Gym in Hollywood, with Freddie Roach.
Jayson previously worked with Abel Sanchez but has just announced his latest career decision, via a phone conference with Puerto Rico newspaper El Vocero.
“I have been training with Freddie since February 1st. We make a good team and working with a trainer who’s a member of the Hall of Fame makes all the difference.”
Freddie Roach’s resume includes Pacquiao, Cotto, Khan. While Abel Sanchez trains middleweight sensation Gennady Golovkin. Velez confirmed that he ended his work relationship with Abel Sanchez in the best possible way.
The Puerto Rican fighter comes from a controversial bout against Russian, Evgeny Gradovich, on November 29th. He could be fighting Philippine Marvin Sonsona (19-1-1, 15 KO) next. Sonsona defeated Wilfredo Vázquez Jr. by split decision on June 7 last year.
