The 33 year-old, who spent ten months recovering from being put in a coma following his fight with Mike Perez in November 2013, was admitted in Connecticut on December 31 for what is reported by ESPN to the fourth spell in as many weeks.

Abdusalamov is currently suffering from bone and blood infections and has been struck down by all manner of ailments over the past month, which include surgery on a lesion and specialist treatment for recurring ulcers on his back.

At the moment doctors are describing Abdusalamov’s situation as ‘life-threatening’ although ‘Mago’ is fighting all the way as he has always done as his loving wife attempts to stay strong for the fallen boxer and their three daughters.

“Before last month it seemed we were done with hospitals and focused on rehabilitation, but since he developed the infections he hasn’t been alert or able to communicate and it’s so agonizing that all of his progress stopped with these recent struggles.

“But we always try to stay positive. We pray and hope for the best, as this is Mago, after all, and he is always a fighter,” Abdusalamova told ESPN.
