The Russian delighted his home crowd, plus his family watching at ringside, by recording a 24th career win and his first on home soil since beating DeMarcus Corley in 2011.

Provodnikov may now seek out revenge against Chris Algieri in the New Year following the American’s lopsided loss to Manny Pacquiao earlier this month in China.

Cruiserweight Rakhim Chakhkiev defeated Jackson Junior in four rounds to improve to 21-1 with a 16th stoppage, whilst Eduard Troyanovsky made light work of Jose Agustin Feria by halting him in round one to make it a perfect 20 as a pro.

Dmitry Kudryashov knocked out veteran former cruiserweight contender Juan Carlos Gomez in just 22 seconds to put an end to the Cubans resurgence, plus there were also victories for Andrey Klimov on points over Gabino Cota (100-89, 100-91, 99-92) and Sergey Lipinets via eighth round KO over Ernie Sanchez.

Also on the bill, Hollywood star Mickey Rourke took just two rounds to inflict a tenth defeat in eleven on Elliot Seymour as the 62 year-old made a successful return to boxing following a 20-year absence.

Rourke was more of a threat than the hapless Seymour, even though the actor is 33 years his senior, and put him down early in the fight with a body shot before ending it with two knockdowns in the next session of what was a drab exhibition contest.
