First round KO for 7ft heavyweight Taishan (video)

Fighting in his second pro bout and television appearance, Taishan felt out late replacement Washington for the first two minutes before unleashing a hard right hand that the American failed to recover from.

Washington, 28, had been making his return from a five-year prison sentence having stepping in for original opponent Michael Lane at the last minute, but was no match for the huge Chinese puncher and failed to make an impact in the fight.

The win kept up 26 year-old Taishan’s 100% stoppage record since he made his debut over the summer in beating Alex Rozman, and on early evidence, the man mountain can certainly make inroads in what has become a stale division over the last few years.

Also on the Indio bill, Golden Boy title prospects Julian Ramirez, Diego De La Hoya and Joseph Diaz Jr. all remained undefeated as their opponents faltered in four and five rounds respectively.
