Live scorecards on WBN tonight: Golovkin v Rubio / Donaire v Walters

Phil Jay 18/10/2014

World Boxing News will be scoring live on site tonight as pound for pound star Gennady Golovkin returns to action in California.

The 32 year-old, who has a 90% knockout rate through 30 contests, faces rugged Mexican Marco Antonio Rubio on Saturday night in a fight that could lead to a huge showdown with Miguel Cotto.

Golovkin aims to win the interim WBC middleweight title on the night which would then put the Kazakh firmly in line to face the Puerto Rican at some point in 2015.

Opponent Rubio, 34, missed the weight by 1.8lbs on Friday and is ineligible to win the WBA and IBO titles currently in Golovkin’s possession. ‘El Veneno’ lost $100,000 of his purse into the bargain.

In the co-feature on the bill, multi-weight world champion Nonito Donaire goes up against Nicholas Walters as both aim to win the WBA featherweight title outright.

Donaire is the current ‘super’ champion, whilst undefeated Walters holds the ‘regular’ version and putting the two fighters together was a natural progression.

The card at the StubHub Center also sees the 175lb debut of former world super-middleweight title challenger Edwin Rodriguez, whilst rising 160lbers Marcos Reyes and Abraham Han collide in a mouth-watering match-up over ten rounds.

Log on to the WBN webstie from around 10pm ET and 3am UK to follow how the cards are scored live.
