Sakio Bika says James DeGale fight talk on November 22 ‘just rumors’

Former WBC super-middleweight champion Sakio Bika has informed WBN that rumors the former Contender champion will be named as James DeGale’s next opponent.

The 35-year-old has been linked to being DeGale’s next opponent. The outspoken Londoner fights on the Nathan Cleverly v Tony Bellew rematch undercard on November 22 in Liverpool.

Speaking to WBN, Bika said there was no truth to it.

“In regards to me fighting James DeGale, that talk just rumors,” Bika told World Boxing News.

DeGale’s promoters Matchroom Boxing are gearing up for an announcement on Thursday regarding a high-profile clash for the Olympic gold medallist.

‘Chunky’ is the current number one contender for the IBF 168lb title.

With champion Carl Froch still undecided about his next career move, DeGale is facing the prospect of a meaningless bout as he awaits his shot at the title, although Eddie Hearn is assuring fans that DeGale will have a decent opponent.

Bika, who lost his title to Anthony Dirrell in August, has all but ruled out being in the opposite corner at the Echo Arena, leaving few options for DeGale and Hearn for the recently confirmed Sky Sports Box Office pay-per-view card.

The likes of Edwin Rodriguez, IBO champion Don George, Derek Edwards and Marco Periban are just a few of the names that could be considered by DeGale’s team, with all to be revealed towards the end of the week.
