Eddie Hearn lobbies to WBO President for Abraham v Smith rematch

Hearn watched on in shock as Smith was wronged with a wide points loss to Abraham in the Liverpudlian’s WBO super-middleweight title bid in Kiel, Germany on Saturday night, and now hopes President Paco Valcarcel will act.

“Unbelievable performance from Paul Smith. Some of the worst scorecards I have seen. Paco Valcarcel, you need to make Paul mandatory ASAP,” said Hearn.

Smith, 31, showed spirit and skill previously thought to be beyond his means in pushing the seasoned Abraham all the way in his first-ever world title bout, although upon the reading of the scorecards was left broken-hearted.

The result has not surprisingly left the vast majority of UK fans in uproar at the decision, with even media stating that the official’s cards had made him want to vomit.

Some saw the contest 114-114 which would not have been argued by most, before the judges’ 119-109, 117-111 (twice) were read out inside the ring to amazement.

Abraham has already switched his attention to a possible fourth fight with Robert Stieglitz if the ex-champion can get past Felix Sturm in November, although Hearn is crossing his fingers that Valcarcel overrules the two-weight title-holder.
