Wilson, 29, underwent an emergency brain operation over the weekend after being knocked unconscious in a fight at Ice Sheffield on Friday night and has since been in critical condition in hospital.

Speaking recently, Coldwell gave an encouraging update from Wilson’s brother Marvin as the UK boxing world rallies around the likeable young fighter in arranging fundraising events to do what they can.

“Just had word from Jerome’s brother Marvin that he’s coughed, jumped and is breathing 90% for himself,” stated Coldwell.

“He’s not out of the woods, but the docs have said this is brilliant progress at this stage. Jerome is a fighter and he is winning.”

He continued: “They’re going to be reducing his sedation bit by bit, but his is such positive news!

“There is a long way to go but he’s started moving!”

This latest news comes as a great relief to the British boxing community and the sport as a whole, with the main hope now being that Jerome makes the best recovery possible in the coming days and weeks.

UPDATE

Wilson, who had eight wins from eleven pro bouts before the incident, underwent a brain operation last weekend and had been in critical condition before recent developments.

Earlier in the week, Wilson began to make movements and was ‘90% breathing on his own’ as stated by his promoter David Coldwell, who has now given a further update to the condition of his charge.

“Another day of huge improvement for Jerome Wilson! Eyes open, always reacting to voices movement down the left hand side. Fighting hard,” said Coldwell, who has been constantly in touch with worried boxing fans to give news on Wilson.

In a statement released through Coldwell Boxing, Jerome’s family thanks everyone for their kindness during this worrying time, along with sending out the picture above:

‘Support has been overwhelming so far. family and friends know it is a long road to recovery but are awaiting to picture these scenes again soon with Jerome and his daughter Serenity.’
