The 26 year-old is scheduled to face British rival Dereck Chisora on November 22 at the ExCel in London as their first clash due to take place at the Phones 4 U Arena in Manchester last July was postponed due to an illness suffered by Fury’s uncle Hughie.
Fury scored an easy win over veteran Joey Abell in a February warm-up for the European title and world championship eliminator, although the undefeated fighter’s last fight of note was against Steve Cunningham in April 2013 at Madison Square Garden in New York.
This lack of top quality opposition in over a year has led the World Boxing Council to squeeze out Fury, who has now been overtaken by the likes of Lucas Browne and Andy Ruiz in the pecking order.
Chisora’s position remains largely unchanged as ‘Del Boy’ aims for another shot at the title, whilst the WBA have dropped the European title holder to the number nine spot just in front of Antonio Tarver.
The World Boxing Association have Fury currently placed at twelve in similar fashion to the WBC, although the WBO and the IBF both have the 6ft 9ins brute riding high at four and five respectively.
Whatever happens in November though, the winner is set to be the mandatory challenger to Wladimir Klitschko once the Ukrainian sifts through his queue of pretenders to his throne – beginning with Bulgarian Kubrat Pulev on November 15.
