Broner claims Peterson fight on October 18, Taylor and manager confirm joke

The 25 year-old is currently scheduled to fight Emanuel Taylor in his first fight on home turf in Cincinatti for two years on September 6, although Broner stated that Al Hayon hooked him up with a world title shot at 140.

WBN then contacted forthcoming opponent Emanuel Taylor and his manager Dave Price, both of whom have confirmed that they know nothing about the claims made by Broner and that the fight remains on.

“Not to my knowledge,” said Price when asked squarely if the fight was off, before he added: “I think Broner is just having fun. His team just sent through our travel itinerary today, so unless they know something we don’t, the fight is still on for September 6.

A short time later Price got back to World Boxing News to say: “In fact, Golden Boy just confirmed to me that it was a joke.”

Taylor, 23, steps up for his biggest career test against the three-weight world champion at the US Bank Arena in just over two weeks’ time with the chance to make himself an instant star with a victory over Broner.

The ‘Tranzformer’ comes into the clash in good shape having taken apart Karim Mayfield in July and could pip Broner to a potential world title shot himself if he can inflict a second defeat on ‘The Problem’ next month.
