Middleweight contender Matthew Macklin is back in tandem with former coach Joe Gallagher as trainer Jamie Moore recovers from being shot five times in Marbella earlier this month.
Moore, 35, was over in Spain getting former opponent Macklin ready for a proposed August 30 clash with Jorge Heiland in Dublin until the shocking incident left him out of action for two to six months.
The Heiland bout was subsequently cancelled, but with Moore focusing on being ready for Tommy Coyle’s October outing, Macklin has switched to Gallagher as promoter Eddie Hearn works on a new date for his return to Ireland.
Gallagher confirmed that Macklin was working once again with his Bolton-based stable of fighters when tweeting over social media on Saturday morning following a run along Dovestones in Manchester.
The two previously worked together succesfully before Macklin decided to make an ambitious move to the United States, although high-profile defeats to worlc champions Sergio Martinez and Gennady Golovkin have meant a move back to the UK for the Irishman.
It is unclear at this moment whether Macklin will remain with Gallagher long term or return to Moore once the ex-pro is back to full fitness.
