One-time world heavyweight champion Shannon Briggs fights for the fifth time since returning to the sport following a four-year absence when the American faces Cory Phelps on Saturday night.
The 42 year-old was linked to a clash with Alex Leapai until the Australian agreed terms to fight Malik Scott, and Briggs now has to settle for a stay-busy bout with six-loss Phelps in North Carolina.
Briggs has been hitting the headlines recently for being involved in several spats with unified title holder Wladimir Klitschko, although ‘The Cannon’ is at the back of a considerable queue to gain a shot at the formidable Ukrainian.
Also seeing action on the same night in Baja California, Mexico is former WBC lightweight champion Antonio DeMarco who is all set to battle American Lanardo Tyner.
Now at light-welterweight, DeMarco, 28, has scored two stoppages since losing his title to Adrien Broner almost two years ago and will move closer to another shot at 140 with a victory.
Opponent Tyner has lost ten of 43 contests boasting 20 stoppages as a professional, but will began the bout as an underdog against the seasoned former world title holder DeMarco.
