Burns, 31, has in all failed to record a victory at 135lbs in his last three outings and Morrison has attributed those losses to weight problems which the Scot hopes to put behind him in an October return to action.
“Ricky was finding it increasingly harder to make the weight,” Morrison told BBC Scotland.
“He was virtually eating nothing before the weigh in and I think that had a lot to do with his last three performances.”
Rumours had circulated that Burns may be ready to step away from the sport following a series of injuries and a broken jaw suffered against Ray Beltran, but Morrison said that those reports were wide of the mark.
“If he is [retiring] he hasn’t told me and I spoke to him two days ago and I think he would be the first to tell me,” said Morrison.
“He is just looking forward to October and fighting at the new weight. We’re planning on him winning a third world title.”
Talk of an all-Scotland battle with Scott Harrison has been rife since the latter was reinstated by the British Boxing Board of Control, although Morrison stated that the contest isn’t a high priority for Burns.
“If the purse was right, he would consider it, but at the moment he doesn’t need Harrison,” he added.
