Former light-middleweight contender-turned trainer Jamie Moore was back in the gym on Wednesday just a few weeks on from suffering several injuries after being shot five times in Marbella, Spain.
The 35 year-old, who trains ex-opponent Matthew Macklin and Hull’s Tommy Coyle, was said to have been the victim of a case of mistaken identity when he was targeted walking back from a party.
Moore, who also acts as a pundit for Sky Sports, is now back doing what he loves best in the gym, although obviously cannot undertake full coaching duties until the Salford man has recovered sufficiently.
One of Moore’s charges, lightweight contender Coyle, is due to fight in his hometown on October 25, although Macklin’s clash with Jorge Heiland was pushed back after the shooting and is yet to be rescheduled.
Macklin and Moore shared an all-out war back in 2006 for the British title at 154lbs, but have since become firm friends and had been working together since November 2013.
The pair were deep in camp for Macklin’s eagerly-anticipated return to Ireland at the end of the month when the shocking incident occured, whilst Police in Spain are yet to make any arrests.
