WBN have been informed by Julio Gudino that contracts for the upcoming middleweight title bout between Gennady Golovkin and Marco Antonio Rubio have been finalized for October 18.
As revealed by World Boxing News on August 15, the fight will take place at the StubHub Center in Carson, California in a change from Golovkin’s usual venue of Madison Square Garden in New York City.
Golovkin, 32, will put his WBA and IBO belts on the line against the rugged Mexican in a fight that has been brewing for some time after Rubio consistently called out the 2013 WBN Fighter of the Year in the media.
The 34 year-old, who is veteran of some 66 contests, has gradually worked his way back into contention by stopping five of his last six opponents since losing to Julio Cesar Chavez Jr for the WBC crown in 2012.
Rubio faces a formidable force in Golovkin though as the big-hitting Kazakh produced a career-best performance in stopping former unified title holder Daniel Geale last time out and just seems to be getting better and better.
A knockout ratio of 90%, equating to 27 victories by stoppage in 30 contests tells its own story, although some may push Rubio forward as potentially Golovkin’s toughest opponent yet.
‘El Veneno’ has 55 early wins of his own to brag out on his own C.V, but the fact that Rubio has been halted three times in his career may lead to most picking Golovkin out for yet another stoppage in the fall.
