Respective representatives for Jorge Arce and Jhonny Gonzalez came to an agreement to put on a world title fight for ten thousand people. The official announcement will come in the following week in Mexico once they have finalized details.
As it stands, the deal is virtually complete, with TV Azteca and Televisa on board to give their backing of the anticipated fight between the five-time world champion, Arce and the universally recognised champion at featherweight, Jhonny Gonzalez. The fight is set to be scheduled for September 20.
On Tuesday, the main protagonists met in Los Mochis, Sinaloa as Fernando Beltran and Reginaldo Küchle outlined the details of the fight. Gonzalez (56-8, 47 KOs) will make the sixth defense of the WBC title as Arce looks to make Mexican boxing history and win his sixth title in different divisions, the fight will be broadcast simultaneously on TV Azteca and Televisa.
Purses for both fighters have already been agreed and only need to get the nod from Beltran and Küchle so the formal announcement of a great night of boxing can be rubberstamped next Wednesday.
“I know there were breakthroughs on Tuesday as we already talked to the promoters of Jhonny, who agreed his salary and that we will fight in the C.U.M, which is beautiful stadium to house ten thousand people,” said Arce. “I will be looking for my sixth crown and I am grateful that I will have the opportunity to make history once again.”
