Retired British contender Jamie Moore is set to be released from hospital on Thursday after being shot whilst in training camp with former opponent Matthew Macklin in Marbella, Spain.
The 35 year-old was on his way home from a gathering of friends when he apparently the victim of a case of mistaken identity and hit five times in the legs and hip earlier this month.
After spending time recuperating, ex-European light-middleweight champion-turned trainer Moore is to be allowed to leave his treatment facility and continue what is still set to be a long recovery from his injuries at home.
“Being discharged from hospital today. Still a way to go with rehab before I’m back 100% but I’m making quick progress. Thanks again,” said Moore, who has been amazed by the outcry of support since the regrettable incident occured on August 3.
The fight Moore was training Macklin for on August 30 agianst Jorge Heiland in Dublin has already been cancelled by promoters Matchroom Boxing and a new date is expected to be announced in the near future by Eddie Hearn.
Moore has also been forced to put his work as a pundit with Sky Sports on hold for the time being.
