Khan aiming for Mayweather/Pacquiao ‘tickover’ fight in England

Khan, 27, attempted to set-up the clash with ex-stablemate Pacquiao, although the fight didn’t get off the ground as the Filipino eventually agreed to battle Chris Algieri in Macao on November 22.

A contest with Floyd Mayweather has also been much talked about for Khan since late 2012, but with religious undertakings colliding with dates, that fight was also written off until at least May of 2015.

Now, Khan is ready to negotiate with other potential foes for his December outing, with Robert Guerrero and Devon Alexander two of those currently in the frame as the Bolton man eyes a first fight at home since April 2013.

“Those fights (with Mayweather and Pacquiao) can definitely happen in the future but I need a ‘tickover fight’ in December,” Khan told the BBC.

“I would like it to be in England and I am trying to get it over here. If not it could be America, or even Dubai.”

“We were looking at Manny Pacquiao, but that fell through. We looked at Mayweather but that didn’t happen because of Ramadan.

“Opponent-wise we have looked at a few names, such as Devon Alexander or Robert Guerrero, but we have not confirmed anything just yet. We have to make sure they are available at the time,” he added.

A standout performance in defeating Luis Collazo on the Mayweather v Maidana I undercard in May has set Khan up for a certain championship challenge in the coming twelve months if he continues to win.

With fierce UK rival Kell Brook facing Shawn Porter for the IBF title this weekend, there is a distinct possibility that Khan could meet the winner in what would be his first world title fight in over two years.
