Edgar Santana: I guess they picked me out of the bunch, big mistake!
IBF light-welterweight title challenger Edgar Santana intents on making a huge statement on Saturday in relieving Lamont Peterson of his championship at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
The 35 year-old Puerto Rican is one of three underdogs going into this weekend’s Showtime triple-header who aims to upset the applecart and give their career a welcome boost.
Santana has lost just once in seven years in a failed shot at the NABA belt, but after being selected to oppose Peterson at the event, is confident that he can make in impact on the biggest stage of his career.
“I’m happy to be the one. I guess they’ve picked me out of the bunch,” Santana stated.
“I feel they committed a big mistake and I’m going to be ready to lay it all on the line that day. I’m going to be there to fight, no doubt about that.
“I’m going to prove everybody wrong. They made a big mistake in choosing me and I’m going to prove everybody wrong and this is for my family and this is for all Puerto Rico and all the Puerto Ricans.
“This is a dream of mine. I want to thank Showtime for this and I want to thank Oscar, yours truly. I’m ready to go and it’s a dream come true. So, I’m going to give it my all and I’m here to win.”
Also on the bill, Rod Salka is a heavy outsider to defeat 140lb king Danny Garcia in a non-tile contest, whilst Jarrod Fletcher is unfancied as he battles hometown boxer Danny Jacobs for the vacant WBA middleweight title.
