Taylor’s manager talks Broner on September 6, says styles suit his fighter

Taylor, 23, is in advanced negotiations for a high-profile encounter with Broner in Cincinatti, Ohio on September 6 as the ‘Tranzformer’ aims to build on his recent ESPN Friday Night Fight’s victory over Karim Mayfield.

Manager Dave Price confirmed the news of the encounter to WBN this week and believes his fighter has a great chance of causing an upset and move closer towards a world title shot at Broner’s expense.

“This is an excellent opportunity for Emanuel and an opportunity that could change the kids life,” Price exclusively told World Boxing News.

“With a win, or even a strong performance, the world would know who this young kid from Baltimore is, and I one hundred per cent believe that Manny can defeat Broner.”

Broner in one-fight into his comeback from a shock loss to Marcos Maidana in December, having overcome Carlos Molina quite easily in April. Price is confident Taylor can put another dent in the trash-talking 25 year-old’s record though as his rising star has been gaining victories without hitting top gear.

“If Manny fights to his potential, he has the perfect combination of speed, power and will to hand Broner loss number two,” said Price. “That being said, we all respect Broner – but I have seen flashes of greatness in Emanuel.

“Even against hard hitting and awkward Karim Mayfield when Manny won, there were several circumstances that hampered his performance. Manny was expecting his first child and was at the hospital until 1am two nights before the fight and didn’t arrive in New York until after 4am on the day of the weigh-in. Even after all that he still pulled out the win, although the world only got a glimpse of who he is and can be in the future.”

Price continued: “The only losses suffered by Emanuel are a controversial decision loss early in his career and second one against previously unknown, but now current world champion in Chris Algieri. People may well wonder if he should even be in the ring with a fighter in the calibre of Adrien Broner, but we know that styles make fights and both of Emanuel’s losses were to similar style opponents.

“Broner stylistically plays into Emanuel’s favor, so if the fans or reporters have low expectations for the fight – it will make for a very pleasant surprise.

“You could never question Broner’s quality as he is a three-time world champion, and maybe at times his comments have overshadowed some of his best performances. I think he is one of the top ten fighters in the world, but whenever you talk the talk, people are looking for you to walk the same way.

“One loss doesn’t make Broner any less dangerous or any less of a fighter, don’t get me wrong, we know he is a great champion and we look forward to the opportunity of facing off on September 6th.”
