Hearn: We’ve been told Froch v Golovkin is not HBO PPV, but Chavez is

Matchroom boss Eddie Hearn sat down with IFL TV’s Kugan Cassius on Monday in the wake of filming for a new TV show in conjunction with the Matchroom ‘Fight Pass’ which launches this week.

Hearn was the very first guest on ‘The Kugan Cassius Show’ which will air regularly over the coming months as the successful promoter branches out further with his long-standing company.

During the interview with Cassius, Hearn talked about the upcoming IBF welterweight title challenge involving undefeated star Kell Brook and also touched on what may happen with his current biggest name, Carl Froch.

Froch is known to be seeking out a massive clash in Las Vegas later in the year and many fans took to Twitter on Sunday to plead with Hearn to do all he can to make a fight with middleweight king Gennady Golovkin happen.

Golovkin, 32, was in devastating form when taking out ex-unified world champion Daniel Geale in New York and a slice of the British fans are calling for Froch to meet the big-hitting Kazakh in a US blockbuster.

As explained by Hearn in the video below, there are plenty of other options and stipulations for Froch to consider, not least the fact the HBO have informed both that they don’t see Froch v Golovkin as a pay-per-view offering.

On the other hand though, a Froch v Julio Cesar Chavez Jr bout would be seen a pay worthy with the network due to the Mexican’s massive following, and Hearn has stated that tentative talks are again underway to try and reach an agreement.

Chavez has been strongly linked to a battle with WBC middleweight title holder Miguel Cotto on December 6 in Las Vegas, but there are big question marks about whether the former world champion could get back down to 160lbs.

That could leave Froch free to negotiate unhindered with Chavez, potentially for the same pre-Christmas date, although as Hearn pointed out, there is also the mandatory defence against compatriot James DeGale to consider.
