Live scorecard on WBN tonight: Canelo Alvarez v Erislandy Lara

Phil Jay 12/07/2014

World Boxing News will be scoring live on site tonight as Canelo Alvarez and Erislandy Lara battle it out in a light-middleweight grudge match in Las Vegas.

Fought at a catchweight of 155lbs, 23 year-old Alvarez and Lara, 31, will be aiming for a world title shot with victory at the MGM Grand – with the fight going out live on Showtime pay-per-view.

Both fighter’s have suffered setbacks in their careers, although are now recognised at the number one and two in the division despite neither currently holding a version of the championship at 154.

There has been plenty of needle in the build-up to the fight and fireworks are expected as big-punching Canelo and talentend boxer Lara top the bill at the home of boxing.

On the undercard, ex-world champions Abner Mares and Juan Manuel Lopez make appearances, whilst there is an eye-catching contest at 140 between the in-form Johan Perez and recent Danny Garcia foe Mauricio Herrera.

Herrera pushed Garcia all the way in Puerto Rico earlier this year, with some believing that the Californian did enough to take the WBA and WBC titles from the champion.
