The long-winded IBF welterweight title clash between Shawn Porter and Kell Brook has finally been settled for the StubHub Center in Carson, California on August 16.
Champion Porter and mandatory challenger Brook, both undefeated, were due to square-off on August 9 initially – although the contracts were not finalized in time and a new date of September 6 was then proposed to the IBF.
Following more talks and tinkering by Golden Boy Promotions, Porter and Brook will now go head-to-head in just over six weeks’ time in what promises to be a barnstormer of a fight between two fighters approaching their prime.
“We have spoken to Golden Boy and after originally being told that the Shawn Porter v Kell Brook fight would be September 6, we are now aware that the fight will take place on August 16 at the StubHub Center in Carson,” IBF Chairman Lindsey Tucker exclusively told World Boxing News on Wednesday evening.
Also on the bill, Sakio Bika is set to put his WBC Super-middleweight title up against Anthony Dirrell in a rematch of their December meeting that ended in a split decision draw in New York.
Bika confirmed to WBN today that the return bout was a done deal as he aims to make the first successful defence of the green belt he won when defeating Marco Periban a year ago.
“I have just started my training camp in St Louis on Monday as I will be fighting Anthony Dirrell again on August 16,” said Bika.
