EXCLUSIVE: IBF confirm date for Shawn Porter vs. Kell Brook title bout

International Boxing Federation Chairman Lindsey Tucker outlined the organization’s calendar mark for the stipulated contest.

Initially, they had a deadline of September 7 for the fight to be finalized.

Porter and Brook, who are both undefeated, had been attempting to fight for the recently-announced August 9 bill at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn featuring Danny Garcia and Lamont Peterson. Still, the IBF did not receive contracts in time to seal the deal.

After some skepticism about whether the fight will finally go ahead, Tucker stated that: “The date we have for Porter-Brook is September 6, 2014,” when contacted by World Boxing News early on Friday.

Official confirmation is yet to be released from either Golden Boy or Matchroom Boxing on whether the date is set in stone. But at this moment in time, the fight is on for the specified date as far as the IBF are concerned.

The clash represents Porter’s second defense of the title he took from Devon Alexander so impressively in December. In April, he retained in a great fashion against Paulie Malignaggi whilst Brook will participate in his maiden world championship fight.

Sheffield-based Brook has been waiting almost two years for his opportunity. This follows delays for several different reasons.

Hopefully, this time ‘The Special One’ will finally get his chance on September 6.

More to come.
