British super-middleweight Rocky Fielding steps up in class on July 12 in Liverpool when the former Prizefighter winner battle Argentine Noe Gonzalez at the Echo Arena.
The 26 year-old two-time Commonwealth title holder had been promised a push on towards to the top level by promoter Eddie Hearn and the Liverpudlian will now get the chance to see how he fares against a man who faced George Groves just one year ago.
It will be a decent gauge for Fielding to see how far behind Groves he is in the domestic pecking order, although Gonzalez has been out of action since and maybe could have done with a warm-up. Gonzalez, 35, was stopped in five rounds by Groves at the O2 Arena in London in May 2013, but had previously gone the distance with ex-world champion Felix Sturm when the German was at the height of his powers.
Fielding is joined on the bill by feuding cruiserweights Tony Bellew and Nathan Cleverly in separate bouts, whilst Stephen Smith, Callum Smith and Anthony Joshua are also scheduled to make appearances.
Olympic gold medallist Joshua will fight the experienced Matt Skelton as he continues his rapid rise towards titles at heavyweight.
