Cotto v Martinez results: Four first round stoppages on non-televised card

Middleweight Nelson moved to 22-1 with his 13th career stoppage after recording a sixth straight victory against Darryl Cunningham, whilst IBO super-featherweight champion Pedraza crushed Arturo Uruzquieta in similar fashion.

‘Sniper’ Pedraza, 25, was participating in a non-title bout at Madison Square Garden three months on from his IBO title triumph and is now 17-0 with eleven knockouts to his name.

Earlier, Puerto Rican prospect Ortiz was victorious on his professional debut as the 19 year-old made light work of Elio Ruiz – finishing his foe late on in the first session.

Exciting lightweight Felix Verdejo improved to 13-0 by knocking out  Engelberto Valenzuela in just 77 seconds. The 21 year-old from San Juan had way too much in his locker for the hapless Valenzuela, 30,inflicting a second loss from ten fights on the Mexican.

Another member of the Puerto Rican contingent, Jose ‘Wonder Boy’ Lopez, is now 14-0 following a unanimous decision triumph over eight rounds against Raul Hidalgo. Lopez saw off Hidalgo 80-72 (twice) and 79-73 to defend his fringe WBC belt for the first time.
