The purse bid was due to be held, for what has been a long-winded match-up, on June 10, but IBF Chairman Lindsey Tucker explained that both sides have now agreed to the fight on the title holder’s home soil.
“I can say that the Porter vs. Brook purse bid has been cancelled as both sides have agreed to do the fight in New York on August 9, 2014,” Tucker exclusively told World Boxing News.
Undefeated Porter, 26, has been in fine form of late since easily dethroning Devon Alexander of the red belt at the back end of last year. ‘Showtime’ destroyed season champion Paulie Malignaggi in just four rounds last April and will go into his second defence as the favourite.
Brook, who is also boasting a perfect record, has seen world title shots fall apart on three occasions in the past and has been largely treading water since impressively dismantling Vyacheslav Senchenko in October 2013.
The 28 year-old Yorkshireman has since eased past Alvaro Robles in scoring his 22nd KO in 32 victories, but now faces a daunting trip Stateside that British rival Amir Khan predicted Brook would never take.
