The seasoned fighter’s will collide at Madison Square Garden in New York on Saturday night in a fight full of intrigue following plenty of trash talk in the build-up. Cotto, 33, and Martinez, who is six-years older, have serious distain for each other following years of rumours that they may finally share the ring, with both now ready after passing the peak of their careers.
Cotto will go into the fight a slight underdog due to the fact that he is stepping up to the stipulated catchweight of 159lbs for the first time, although Martinez has never been big at the weight and is predominantly a 154lber.
On the undercard, Jorge Melendez fights Javier Maciel and Wilfredo Vazquez Jr rematches against Marvin Sonsora, whilst Andy Lee moves down to light-middleweight to take on John Jackson over ten rounds. Willie Nelson, Jose Pedraza and Felix Verdejo will also feature at MSG.
