Mexican Hall of Fame trainer Nacho Beristain has been reportedly recovering in hospital after suffering health problems last week.
The 74 year-old, who works with Juan Manuel Marquez and Jhonny Gonzalez, amongst other respected fighters, was admitted on Wednesday as confirmed by the World Boxing Council, and has been kept in for observation.
Beristain underwent ‘minor surgery’ upon his arrival at the un-named Mexico City medical facility and is now said to be in a ‘comfortable and stable’ condition as doctors monitor his progess.
No details have been released on what kind of ailment was suffering by the legendary coach, who recently oversaw four-weight world title holder Marquez’s victory over Mike Alvarado at the world famous Forum, along with Gonzalez retaining his WBC title against Clive Atwell just last month.
Known as one of the greatest trainer’s of all time, Beristein has also helped world champions Jorge Arce, Abner Mares and Oscar De Le Hoya with their careers and is much revered around the in boxing circles everywhere for his achievements.
WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman has expressed his concern at the news and WBN would also like to wish Mr. Beristain well in his recovery.
