Walters KO’s Darchinyan, Gradovich retains IBF title

The Jamaican put veteran Darchinyan down in second round of a dominant display, before hurting the challenger in the fifth and ending the contest suddenly with a massive hook.

Darchinyan should now be urged to step away from the sport after what was a tired performance in losing for the seventh time, whislt big-hitting Walters improves to 24-0 with a 20th stoppage.

Earlier on the bill, Evgeny Gradovich overcame a stubborn Alexander Miskirtchian as the ‘Mexican-Russian’ retained his IBF featherweight title for the third time.

The 27 year-old was in control for most of what was a competative fight, but was put down by the challenger in the sixth and looked a little embarrassed for his trouble.

Judges at ringside in China came back with scorecards of 118-110 and 117-110 twice to confirm Gradovich’s superiority in the contest, with my own viewing of the fight being a round or so tighter at 116-111.

On this form though, Gradovich would be hard pressed to match any of the other 126lbs champions.
