Multi-weight world title holder Nonito Donaire scaled slightly heavier than WBA featherweight champion Simpiwe Vetyeka on Friday as the Filipino bids to rip away his coveted world title on Saturday in Macau..
Donaire, 31, can boast of holding some sort of world title in four weight divisions going into his latest test and has now moved through five weight classes in as many years.
Opponent Vetyeka, who is two years older than Donaire, ended the long-standing unbeaten record of Chris John in his last contest in December, but still goes into his first defence as a huge underdog to fend off the challenger.
In a featherweight world title feast at the Cotai Arena presented by Top Rank, recent signing Nicholas Walters defends his WBA ‘regular’ version to Vetyeka’s ‘super’ version against veteran and Donaire rival Vic Darchinyan, whilst IBF holder Evgeny Gradovich puts his red belt on the line against Alexander Miskirtchian.
Official Weights From Macau:
Simpiwe Vetyeka 125.5 Lb v Nonito Donaire 126 Lb
Nicholas Walters 125.5 vs Vic Darchinyan 125.75
Evgeny Gradovich 125.5 vs Alexander Miskirtchian 125.5
Vetyeka v Donaire is to be broadcast via delay on HBO in the US and live on BoxNation in the UK from 2pm. To subscribe visit BoxNation.
