Former world cruiserweight champion Enzo Maccarinelli is currently in the gym training for a possible rematch with WBO title holder Juergen Braehmer on June 7 in Schwerin, Germany.
Although the fight is not yet officially finalized, the Welshman is holding out for his chance at redemption after losing out on a bad injury when challenging the two-time world champion in April.
The 33 year-old suffered an horrific eye injury that forced trainer Gary Lockett to halt the contest after five rounds and Maccarinelli immediately sought out negotiations for another opportunity at Braehmer.
Publicist Neil Navarra is hopeful that word will come soon from Team Sauerland regarding the summer return as Swansea favourite Maccarinelli eyes world titles in two different weight divisions.
“We are ready to go and Enzo is training for the date, but nothing has been confirmed yet,” Navarra told World Boxing News.
“We want the rematch and so do the public. Enzo is fit, ready and still really hungry for this fight so let’s hope we get confirmation soon.”
Reports from Argentina are linking former Tony Bellew opponent Roberto Bolonti to being Braehmer’s next opponent, although as yet nothing has been released by Team Sauerland with just under a month to go.
