Veteran fighter Steve ‘2 Pound’ Forbes is backing Floyd Mayweather to put on another masterclass on May 3 in Las Vegas and says recent sparring partner Manny Pacquiao could be the only challenger to get close to the world’s premiere fighter before he retires next year.
Forbes, who himself is a former world champion, is predicting an action-packed contest when ‘The Moment’ arrives next month, with Mayweather coming out on top once again to keep his title belt and unbeaten record intact.
“I have to favour the pound for pound king until someone comes along who can break his skills,” Forbes told World Boxing News.
“Mayweather is on top and I think he chose Maidana for his next fight because it looks to be a more exciting fight than one against Khan. Mayweather made his choice after Maidana’s appearance against Broner and I am sure he will make it a good fight for the fans.
“I think Floyd showed why he is the top guy in the sport by picking Maidana over someone else and I believe Mayweather will show he is the best guy in boxing in a thrilling fight.”
With Forbes sure of another victory for Mayweather, the 37 year-old pushed the ‘Pacman’ to give ‘Money’ a run for his money if the two were ever pitted together in a super-fight at 147.
“I believe if Pacquiao puts on a great performance against Bradley next week, then he is the only guy that will have decent odds to be rooted for against Mayweather, but whether the fight happens is another story,” said Forbes.
